Teaching

Students from Intermediate Digital Studio class just finished installing their works at Art Tech Night 2024, Inova Gallery, Milwaukee, WI

I teach and mentor students across undergraduate and graduate levels, in sculpture, creative coding, XR, and experimental media. I am particularly interested in supporting students who want to bridge art, technology, and critical inquiry to prepare them for creative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and emerging practices in contemporary art and design.

I translate my creative research into graduate and undergraduate teaching, where interdisciplinary creators work with real-time rendering, generative algorithms, electronics, and fabricated sculptural forms. We work with game engines, creative coding, AR/VR/XR frameworks, and embedded systems alongside traditional sculptural methods, including 3D modeling, digital fabrication, and installation. My technical practice emphasizes human-machine collaboration as hands-on authorship in design, sculpting, physical components, and computer code.

My pedagogical approach employs principles originating in fine arts, such as embodied learning, practical research, and open-ended experimentation, combined with structured reflection of the sciences. While artistic modes of inquiry produce possibilities and new interests for students, the scientific principles stress the importance of collaboration in place of individualism to increase the capacities of creative minds. For example, when teaching a class with students majoring in a range of disciplines, I encourage them to understand each other’s perspective through discussions, collaborative writing, and creative projects.
