Artist Statement

Through a hybrid language of material and code, I seek to evoke a technological affect in a visceral, emotional response to the interweaving of flesh, data, and machine. My sculptural works draw on the cyborg bodies of Donna Haraway that dissolve the boundaries between organism and machine, encouraging audiences to touch, listen, and inhabit their surfaces.

My multi-media practice expands into virtual and augmented  environments, informed by the radical interventions of Marjan Moghaddam’s hacked CGI bodies and the fluid virtual identities of Lu Yang. I create parametric, hand-sculpted, 3D-scanned, and animated extended realities that explore the politics of perception and intimacy in virtual space. These entities are  avatars of reconfigured sensory and sexual organs that inhabit both interactive installations and online networks. They function as sensory metaphors asking the viewer to question the dogmatic limits of human embodiment. Whether physical, virtual, or mixed reality, my sculptures question our notions of sensing, touching, and conceiving in our posthuman bodies.
